A Pillow Update

I have a small office/den in my house that I use for my blogging space. In my space there's a brown leather couch that has a couple of gold and black throw pillows paired with a plain black velvet pillow.  Nothing wrong with the pillows, I'm just tired of looking at them. Back when I was working full time, I had the printed pillows custom made to coordinate with a striped roman shade in the room, and fortunately, when the shop delivered the shade and pillows, they also brought my extra fabric.

I came across the fabric remnant today when I was looking for something else, and I'm glad I found it. It gave me an idea to dress up the old black pillow.

I cut out two strips of the fabric, each 36 inches long and 6 inches wide.

I sewed them together to make a 72 inch long tie, then folded it in half and stitched all around, leaving an opening to turn.
I stitched the opening closed and pressed the tie.

The plain black velvet pillow can now don its new "scarf".

I tied the scarf around the pillow and knotted it in the middle. The fabric I used is heavy and stiff and will stay in place, so I didn't stitch it to the pillow. Lighter weight fabric might need to be tacked at the back, front, or sides.

An updated version of the old black velvet pillow - total cost = $0
